Welcome to the 2015 NFC East. Matt Cassel is the Dallas Cowboys quarterback, the New York Giants are still plagued by injuries and, closing in on the midway point of the season, everything is still completely up in the air.
Despite last week’s loss, the Giants come into the divisional matchup as the 3-point favorites at home on Sunday afternoon at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The long-time rivals also met in Week 1 of the season when the Cowboys staged an improbable final-second comeback, erasing a New York double digit lead in the fourth quarter. It was dramatic, it was emotional, it was, for all intents and purposes, a typical NFC East battle.
New York might be the favorite, but the Giants recent performance against the Cowboys doesn’t do much to inspire any kind of odds-related hopes. Big Blue is 0-5 SU in the last five games when playing Dallas and 1-4 SU in its last five games when playing at home against Dallas.
The Giants will still be without WR Victor Cruz, who has yet to even practice after being hampered with a lingering calf injury. Odell Beckham Jr. also missed several practices this week with a hamstring injury that seemed to hamper his explosive potential in last week’s lost to the Eagles. Still, the second-year wideout is expected to play this week.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Cowboys are 7-3 overall, 8-2 ATS and 6-4 Over/Under in games on the road after a bye week according to the OddsShark NFL Database. In fact, Dallas’ most recent post-bye road games were against New York and they both were victories.
There’s a bit of an asterik involved in all of this however, with Cassel getting the start for the Cowboys. The journeyman QB will be making his first start in a Dallas uniform and there are plenty of questions surrounding what he’ll be able to do with the squad’s fledgling offense. The Cowboys had lost three straight games with Brandon Weeden as the starter
The total for Sunday afternoon’s Dallas vs. New York betting matchup is set at 43.8 points at the sportsbooks. The total has gone UNDER in five of Dallas’ last seven games and has gone OVER in seen of Dallas’ last 10 games on the road. The total has also gone OVER in all five of New York’s last five games against Dallas, as well as OVER in six of New York’s last eight games when playing Dallas at home.
The OddsShark Computer is projecting a 25.1 – 18.7 New York victory.
