EDIT: Kevin Coyle was fired Thursday afternoon by the Dolphins. He will be replaced by Lou Anarumo. Read more about it here.

After a disappointing showing in London, Miami head coach Joe Philbin has been shown the door. Dan Campbell will serve as the team’s interim head coach.

That’s no surprise.

What is surprising is the lack of news regarding defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle. He was likely to be fired before Philbin was, but no news has surfaced regarding his future. Philbin went on the record defending Coyle, so it was expected owner Stephen Ross would show them the door together.

Coyle joined the Dolphins in 2012, and has been the DC for Philbin’s entire tenure with Miami. He previously served as the secondary coach for the Bengals, and was a defensive coordinator at Fresno State. He’s never been a head coach in college.

The Dolphins are ranked the 30th ranked defense in the NFL, surrendering 399.5 yards per game through three weeks. With one of the most expensive defensive lines in football, the Dolphins have just one sack, less than any team in the league. They haven’t forced a fumble.

As of right now, Kevin Coyle inexplicably still has his job. New head coach Dan Campbell doesn’t have much experience, so it’s unlikely he’ll start his new gig by axing his coordinators.
