After a comeback win against the Eagles on Sunday, the Miami Dolphins are right in the thick of the AFC Wild Card race. They head home to Miami this week, where they’ve opened as a narrow favorite over the visiting Dallas Cowboys.
Why is the spread so close? This week has been targeted as the return date for Cowboys QB Tony Romo. The Dallas starter has missed seven straight games, and the Cowboys have gone 0-7 during that span with Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel as his replacement. This past Sunday against Tampa might have been rock-bottom, as the Cowboys surrendered game-winning drive to Jameis Winston in the final seconds.
The Dolphins were getting embarrassed after the first 15 minutes against Philadelphia on Sunday, but rebounded and played solid defense late to earn a 20-19 win. According to OddsShark.com, the Dolphins are 1-5 against the spread in their last six home games.
Although the Cowboys have been all but eliminated from the postseason, Jerry Jones has maintained that Romo will play regardless of their record.
“..There’s no set of circumstances that we wouldn’t play him and play him with hopes of winning that game and winning the rest of the ballgames,” Jones said during an interview with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas last week.
