A relatively new franchise, the Carolina Panthers are still seeking their first Super Bowl title.
That doesn’t mean they haven’t been close.
In 1996, just their second year in existence, the Panthers, led by Kerry Collins, started the season 5-4 then reeled off eight straight wins to advance to the NFC Conference Championship before falling to the Green Bay Packers. Seven years later, they made it to Super Bowl XXXVIII but fell three points short against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Two seasons ago, they earned a first-round bye but lost in the divisional round to the San Francisco 49ers.
Overall, in 21 seasons, Carolina is 9-6 in 15 playoff games. They’ve been to the divisional round seven times, the conference championship four times and this will mark their second appearance in the Super Bowl. Here’s a complete look at their history:
