Latest Patriots News
Christian Barmore : Expected to be available in April
Speaking Monday, new Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said Barmore (illness) is expected to be available for the start of the offseason program next month, Mark Daniels of MassLive.com reports. Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots last summer and missed the first 10 games of the 2024 season before being cleared to play in November. He appeared in four games before experiencing recurred symptoms, leading to his placement on the reserve/non-football illness list for the final three contests of the year. Barmore's return would be a massive boost to New England's defensive line.
Ja'Lynn Polk : Recovering from surgery
Polk is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. A second-round pick last spring, Polk got some chances in a top-three role as a rookie but caught just 12 of 33 targets (for 87 yards and two TDs) before suffering a shoulder injury Week 17. It apparently was serious enough to require surgery but shouldn't threaten his availability for Week 1 of 2025. New Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said he's excited about how Polk has approached his rehabilitation and focused on lower-body strength in the meantime. Once he's healthy, Polk will compete for playing time with new additions Stefon Diggs (ACL tear) and Mack Hollins, as well as 2025 holdovers DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, Kendrick Bourne and Javon Baker.
Stefon Diggs : Could be ready for Week 1
Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site relays via Adam Schefter of ESPN that there's reportedly optimism Diggs, who is bouncing back from a torn right ACL in his right knee that he suffered Oct. 27, could be ready for Week 1 of the coming season. Given the timing of his injury, Diggs being available for the Patriots' regular-season opener is far from a lock, but Mike Reiss of ESPN recently noted that league sources described the wideout as ahead of schedule in his recovery and already running full speed, while in the process of gaining increased comfort in terms of cutting and changing direction. In any case, added context with regard to Diggs' progress will arrive once he re-takes the field in the coming months, and once he's deemed fit for game action, the 31-year-old will be counted on to establish himself as a high-volume target for second-year QB Drake Maye. It's possible that the Patriots aren't done adding to their WR corps, but for now DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, Kendrick Bourne, Mack Hollins, Ja'Lynn Polk and Javon Baker are on hand to compete for slotting behind Diggs, who New England signed to a reported three-year, $69 million deal (with $26 million guaranteed) on Tuesday.
Stefon Diggs : Headed to New England
Diggs (knee) and the Patriots agreed on a three-year, $69 million contract including $26 million guaranteed Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Diggs will head to New England after an injury-shorted campaign with the Texans in 2024. The wide receiver caught 47 of 64 targets for 496 yards and three touchdowns while also adding eight yards and a score on the ground over eight games with Houston before suffering a season-ending torn ACL in Week 8 against the Colts. Once he moves past the injury, Diggs will have a clear path to a heavy target load as Drake Maye's de facto WR1 with the Patriots in 2025.
John Parker Romo : Only kicker left in New England
Romo became the last remaining kicker on the Patriots' roster once Joey Slye signed with the Titans on Monday, Mark Daniels of masslive.com reports. The Patriots are likely to add another kicker as the offseason progresses, per Daniels. Romo signed to the Patriots' practice squad in December after replacing the injured Will Reichard for four games with the Vikings, during which he made 11 of 12 field goals and seven of eight extra-point tries. Romo also signed a reserve/future contract with New England in January, so he should have a chance to compete for at least the starting kicking job in training camp.
Christian Elliss : Offer matched by New England
The Patriots matched Elliss' offer sheet from the Raiders on Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Elliss was extended an offer sheet by Las Vegas on March 19, but the Patriots are retaining the 26-year-old linebacker. His new contract is a two-year deal, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. Elliss logged a career-year in 2024, with80 tackles (42 solo) including 1.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery across 16 regular-season appearances (five starts).
Christian Elliss : Receives offer from Las Vegas
Elliss signed an offer sheet from the Raiders on Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Elliss became a restricted free agent when the Patriots tendered him March 8. That gave New England the ability to match any offer that another team makes to Elliss, and the Patriots now have until Monday to match the Raiders' offer to the 26-year-old linebacker. Elliss started in five of 16 regular-season games for the Patriots in 2024 and finished with 80 tackles (42 solo), including 1.5 sacks, five pass defenses (one interception), one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Jack Gibbens : Moving to New England
Gibbens (ankle) signed a one-year deal with the Patriots on Wednesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. The Minnesota product spent the first three years of his NFL career with the Titans, appearing in 29 regular-season games and recording 167 tackles, including 1.5 sacks, and four passes defended. Gibbens missed Tennessee's final seven games in 2024 due to an ankle injury, but it now appears he's moved past the issue. Now in New England, he's expected to compete for a depth role in the linebacker corps while also contributing on special teams.
