Jill Ellis’ USWNT have their toughest test of qualifying behind them, and wrap up group play tonight against Puerto Rico. With a tense 1-0 victory over Mexico on Saturday, USWNT is guaranteed a place in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship.
USA got solid chances against Mexico but didn’t score until Carli Lloyd converted a penalty in the 80th minute. The team is going for their fourth straight championship at this tournament, and is attempting to qualify for their seventh straight Olympic games.
With the team guaranteed a place in the semifinals, expect to see younger stars against struggling Puerto Rico. PR have been outscored 15-0 in their first two matches, while USA have beaten those same two teams by a combined 6-0 score.
