Jason Day got off to a blazing start at the 2016 Players Championship.
In the first round at TPC Sawgrass, he tied a course record at 9-under 63. He played bogey-free golf and connected on nine birdies.
Round two was much of the same — no bogeys, only birdies. Day shot a 6-under 66 to set the 36-hole record at the Players with a 15-under 129.
Day proved to be human during the third round, but the conditions were brutal. He finally bogeyed a hole — that came on the par 3 No. 3. He finished the day at 1-over 73. Day entered Sunday’s final round with a four-stroke lead.
On Sunday, Day started slowly, shooting 2-over on the front 9. But birdied two of the first four holes on the back to take command once again. He shot a 1-under 71 on closing day.
Day had 22 birdies, 3 bogeys and 2 double bogeys for the tournament.
Day finished at 15-under 273, four shots in front of Kevin Chappell (11-under 277).
