The Players Championship isn’t one of golf’s four majors, though it is usually referred to as the fifth.

Judging by the total purse and prize money for the 2016 tournament, you’ll see why it’s such a prestigious event.

The total purse for this year’s Players is $10.5 million, with the winner, Jason Day, taking home roughly $1.89 million. Runner-up Kevin Chappell earned a cool $1.13 million.

Those numbers are up from the 2015 tournament. The purse was $10 million last year and winner Rickie Fowler won $1.8M of it.

In fact, the Players purse is even bigger than the Masters in 2016. April’s first major had a total purse of $10 million, with a $1.8M winner’s share. It’s the richest payout on the Tour this season.

Fowler won’t be collecting that big check this year as the 27-year-old missed the -2 cut by a stroke. Also missing out on the Players weekend are Jordan Spieth (-1), 2007 champion Phil Mickelson (-1) and 2009 winner Henrik Stenson (+6).
