John Saunders has a brother who also played hockey, Bernie Saunders. His brother's name sometimes brought up confusion on Twitter during the election, with people often misspelling Bernie Sanders' name as Saunders. Bernie is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey right winger. He only played two seasons. While in high school, both Bernie and John played hockey and they both went on to play college hockey at Western Michigan University. When John Saunders shared a photo on Facebook of Bernie's son, Shawn, someone commented that he looked a lot like his dad, so the girls would have to look out.  (Twitter/Bob Spencer)
