Virginia Tech quarterback Jerod Evans completed 20 of 32 passes for 221 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 36-13 win over Liberty last weekend. He also was the Hokies rushing leader, adding 46 yards on the ground. In his first game as an FBS quarterback, Evans became the first Virginia Tech quarterback to throw four touchdown passes in a game since Bryan Randall in 2004.
Evans, a 6-foot-4, 235-pound dual-threat quarterback will face the Tennessee Volunteers Saturday night in the Battle at Bristol.
Evans told the Star-Telegram his team is up for the challenge.
“We want to send a message, and we have some hungry guys who have been through two straight 7-6 seasons,” Evans said. “We want to show who we are as a team. As one unit. We all want to prove ourselves. This is a close-knit team, and we don’t let the outside dictate anything to us, whether they think we are going to lose or win.”
