Bo Scarbrough was thriving under the national spotlight.

Having to play backup to Derrick Henry last season as a freshman, Scarbrough helpled the Crimson Tide to an early lead in the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship game January 9.

However, Scorbrough’s huge day was halted by a right leg injury.
He walked to the locker room with trainers near the end of the third quarter and didn’t return to the game, though he was shown walking back to his team’s sideline a few minutes later at the start of the fourth. The game turned following Scarbrough’s exit, as freshman QB was forced to throw much more.

Scorbrough’s biggest play of the game was a 37-yard touchdown run down the sideline to give Alabama a 14-0 lead.

It was Scarbrough’s second rushing touchdown of the game after starting with a 25-yard score on 2nd down during the first quarter. He took the hand-off down from QB Jalen Hurts to the left sideline and then to the end zone to give Alabama an early 7-0 lead.

Scarbrough led all players with 93 rushing yards on 16 carries, scoring 12 of Alabama’s 31 points. Here are Scarbrough’s complete statistics for the championship game.

Bo Scarbrough Championship Game Stats

  • Rushing: 16 carries, 93 yards, 2 TD; 5.8 yards per carry
  • Receiving: 2 catches, 7 yards; 3.5 yards per reception

  • Scarbrough attended Tuscaloosa County High School in Alabama and was a five-star recruit when he committed to Alabama.

As a true freshman, Scarbrough carried the ball 18 times for 104 yards. On December 31, 2016 he ran for 180 yards against Washington and earned Offensive MVP honors for the Peach Bowl.
