At least one man has been injured in a shooting just outside of Nationals Park, the home of Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals, on Tuesday morning.
NBC News4 Washington reports that police were called to the gates of the stadium in southeast Washington D.C. just after 10 a.m. ET to respond to the shooting. No arrests have been made and police have no description of the suspect, but police say that the shooting took place behind Cap Liquor Store near the centerfield gate on N Street SE and Half Street SE then the victim ran to the crowd outside of Nationals Park for help. Team officials have advised people in vicinity of the stadium to shelter in place.
Police stated that one man was shot in the face and his condition is currently unknown. Social media accounts denoted that a job fair for Levy Restaurants, which handles concessions for the Nationals, was being held. WJLA ABC has posted photos from the scene of the shooting. Sports Illustrated reported that the victim was also shot in the shoulder as well.
A statement was released by the Nationals later on Tuesday.
This morning a shooting occurred within a few blocks of Nationals Park. The injured victim fled the scene and was located and treated by emergency personnel outside the center field gates, where job seekers were gathered in advance of a concessions staff job fair. The victim was transported by D.C. Fire and EMS to a local hospital. The Nationals are cooperating with the MPD investigation. Due to the incident, the concessions staff job fair has been rescheduled for January 31.
