Sixers Roster & Starting Lineup After J.J. Redick Signing

Getty J.J. Redick is bringing his shooting skills east.

Sixers fans are starting to trust the process as Philadelphia made another off-season move agreeing to a deal with J.J. Redick. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Redick will sign a one-year, $23 million deal.

Here’s a look at the current Sixers roster with the addition of Redick. The starting lineup is a projection, and could look different come October. Philly’s current free agents are noted in italics. We have also included all of the draft picks even though Philly is unlikely to have all of the rookies on their roster to start the season. There are also rumors Furkan Korkmaz could come over as soon as this season.

C- Joel Embiid, Richaun Holmes, Jahlil Okafor, Tiago Splitter (FA), Mathais Lessort (R)
PF- Dario Saric, Amir Johnson, Alex Poythress (FA), Jonah Bolden (R)
SF- Ben Simmons, Robert Covington
SG- J.J. Redick, Nik Stauskas, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, Justin Anderson, Sterling Brown
PG- Markelle Fultz (R), T.J. McConnell, Sergio Rodriguez (FA), Jerryd Bayless

Prior to the signing of Redick, the Sixers had enough talent to compete for a playoff spot. The decline of the Eastern Conference combined with the talented team the Sixers have built could have them in play for one of the top four seeds in the East. The key to the Sixers success will be their team’s ability to stay healthy. The Sixers young core has had trouble staying on the floor.

Redick gives Philadelphia much needed shooting, and should slide into the starting shooting guard role for the Sixers. While $23 million is a lot to pay for Redick, shooting has become a premium in the NBA. Since it is a one-year deal, it frees up both parties to move on if this season does not work out as planned. Redick will not be able to sign the deal until June 6.

It is the second major move the Sixers have made this summer. Prior to the draft, Philadelphia traded up to the top spot to select Washington point guard Markelle Fultz. Ben Simmons, the top pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, will also make his NBA regular season debut this year.

The Sixers opening night starting lineup could feature as many as three new players.
