‘Big Sister Duties Coming Soon’

Although Mahomes kept most of the pregnancy a mystery, the photo did imply that baby number two is on the way with his daughter holding a sign that read: “Big sister duties coming soon.”

It was captioned: “Round 2!” Beat reporter Aaron Ladd offered his congratulations, adding that the “Mahomes family [is] growing.”

Brittany Mahomes replied later that night: “My heart is so full.”

Considering Mahomes and Matthews were just married in March, this blessing could be the best wedding gift of all. More information on the due date and gender is unknown at this time.

Big Year for Mahomes

2022 has been incredible for the Mahomes family so far between the destination wedding in Hawaii and a second child on the way. Outside of the Chiefs’ loss in the AFC championship game, you might say it’s been a perfect start to the year.

Can Mahomes complete it with another monster campaign on the football field?

The Chiefs star has never had a bad season but he has yet to put together one as dominant as 2018 — despite winning a Super Bowl the following year. Mahomes accumulated over 5,000 yards during his lone MVP campaign, with a tremendous 50 passing touchdowns.

The signal-caller came close to that output in 2022 with 4,839 passing yards, although he had an extra start to work with. It’ll be interesting to see if his new complement of playmakers helps or hurts his production but the plan is to spread the ball around more like in 2018.

“What you’re going to see with this offense is it’s going to be everybody,” Mahomes said while discussing the changes during his press conference at organized teams activities (OTAs) on May 26. “The whole receiving room will [each] have big days, and that’s something that we can use to our advantage…Defenses won’t know [where the ball is going].”

Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce did have 1,300-plus yard seasons in 2018 but auxiliary weapons like Kareem Hunt, Sammy Watkins, Chris Conley and Demarcus Robinson gave the Chiefs a diverse blend of options for Mahomes. This current group of pass-catchers could potentially mirror the MVP year if all goes well.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Justin Watson have already been highlighted for their play at OTAs and JuJu Smith-Schuster has been working with Mahomes over the offseason to build up some chemistry. Don’t forget rookies Skyy Moore and Justyn Ross, as well as Kelce and Mecole Hardman.

Then there are the running backs. This roster currently has four legitimate horses in the stable when you factor in new additions Ronald Jones II and Isaih Pacecho. Of course, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Derrick Gore are now the veterans of the franchise at the position.
