Was Cam Newton hobbled after the New England Patriots‘ Week 1 win over the Miami Dolphins? He appeared to be limping as he headed off the field. He talked about his health.
Take a look at this video showing Newton reach for his left hamstring, and he appeared to be limping.
How Serious Is the Cam Newton Injury?
However, when Newton was asked about the injury, he smiled and said he was good.
What should Patriots fans believe? It’s not as if Newton would openly admit he was hurt, especially not before having some sort of diagnosis and treatment. That said, he did seem a bit upset and very delayed when he finally arrived at the postgame news conference. You can watch it here.
Logic and wisdom say we’ll have to wait until later in the week to find out if there is more to it than Newton is letting on.
Newton’s Impact on the Week 1 Victory
Without a question, no other quarterback on the Patriots’ roster could have executed the gameplan offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels had in place for Sunday’s game besides Newton.
The former NFL MVP ran for 75 yards and two touchdowns, which clearly proved he’s capable of being a dual-threat still in the NFL. As a passer, Newton wasn’t prolific in the way of yardage or attempts, but he was efficient and accurate. He completed 15 of 19 attempts for 155 yards. He probably would have had a third touchdown had N’Keal Harry’s turnover inside the five not given the ball to the Dolphins.
The Other Quarterbacks
Jarrett Stidham wasn’t active for the Patriots on Sunday, which tells you all you need to know about his status on the team. Brian Hoyer was the backup, but he was mentioned no more than two or three times for three hours. This is Newton’s team and keeping him healthy is paramount. Stay tuned.
