Floyd Mayweather Coaches ‘Tank’ To Dramatic KO [WATCH]

Getty Floyd Mayweather helped Gervonta Davis win his fight on Saturda night.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. might be retired from professional boxing, but the superstar fighter still knows how to coach up his favorite pupils even when he’s just sitting ringside for the fight. Mayweather was sitting in the front row on Saturday night to watch Gervonta “Tank” Davis take on Mario Barrios in an important 140-pound boxing battle on Showtime pay-per-view. Davis was in a tough fight with Barrios, but the rising boxing superstar heeded important advice from Mayweather on the way to scoring his dramatic KO victory in the 11th round.

You can see the stoppage below. Davis ended the fight with a vicious body shot.

Here’s the clip of Mayweather barking instructions to Davis during the fight.

According to TalkSport’s Michael Benson, Mayweather revealed to Davis before the tenth round that he was losing his fight against Barrios, at least according to Showtime’s unofficial scorecard.

Davis Used Info From Mayweather to Stop Barrios

The info from Mayweather seemed to inspire Davis. The fighter used that information to propel himself to gunning for the stoppage victory harder than ever, and the 26-year-old did eventually score his dramatic come-from-behind victory over his opponent in the eleventh round.

It wasn’t easy, but Davis got the job done.

Mayweather can be seen in the video telling Davis he was down on the scorecard Mayweather saw, and the information shared with him seemed to activate Davis.

Mayweather screamed, “I’ve got to be honest with you. That’s what you want from me.”

Davis didn’t look happy about the news, but he ended up happy after the fight probably because of it.

His latest win over Barrios earned Davis another gold belt. Davis became one of pro boxing’s 140-pound champs this time, though it should also be noted the WBA “regular” belt is considered a secondary title.

Superfights Loom For Davis

Davis (25-0, 24 KOs) is one of the most dynamic stars in boxing. The 26-year-old is already one of the biggest names in the sport, and huge superfights loom for the American in and around 135 and 140 pounds.

Most notably, Davis has been tied to the likes of 22-year-old phenom Ryan Garcia. Both undefeated stars have suggested the superfight would be on the way, but it hasn’t happened yet.

Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) is just one potential superfight for Davis. Other candidates include former pound-for-pound No. 1 boxing champ Vasiliy Lomachenko (15-2, 11 KOs) and current undisputed lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez.

Lomachenko rebounded from his shocking loss last year to Lopez by stopping Masayoshi Nakatani in the ninth round on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Lomachenko, 33, and Lopez, 23, both compete in boxing’s 135-pound lightweight division. While both stars have big enough names to make superfights against Davis as massive as they come in boxing, they’re likely to fight each other again first due to promotional alliances.

Still, Davis combined with those fighters plus 22-year-old 135-pound menace Devin Haney as one of the most remarkable cadres of talent in or around any division in boxing today.
