Will the New Apple TV Detect Motion Kinect-Style? Maybe.

Yesterday, Apple confirmed purchasing Israel-based company and startup PrimeSense for some $360 million. The company is known for aiding Microsoft with the motion detection used on the Xbox Kinect, reports Business Insider.

While it remains to be seen what Apple will do with the acquisition, it is likely looking to beef up Apple TV from an Apple Roku to something more sophisticated. Perhaps, given Apple’s pre-existing ecosystem, we can expect a port of iOS to the device and apps and games that integrate motion connectivity.

In any case, the future of Apple TV will likely not be that of the stagnant iPod Classic, but rather a progressive expansion of its features and abilities, perhaps culminating in a fourth pillar to Apple’s PC, phones, and tablet empire.
