There are rumors that Samsung is about to launch the Galaxy Band, a wearable fitness tracker that would compete with products like Fitbit or Nike FuelBand. The rumored device is expected to debut at the Mobile World Congress later this month. Here’s what we’ve heard about this potential launch.

1. Updated Version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 S Band Fitness Bracelet

The “Galaxy Band” product is expected to be something similar to Samsung’s old Galaxy S4 S Band Fitness Bracelet. This waterproof band was designed to track your steps and activity during the day, as well as monitor you during sleep.

2. Band Will Play Nice With S Health

Pocket Lint reports that Samsung is gearing up to launch a revamped version of their S Health app alongside the Galaxy S5 smartphone. This revamped version of S Health is likely to work in concert with the Galaxy Band. The revamped S Health app shows that Samsung is committed to making a splash in the fitness sector.

3. Compatibility Is Still TBD

Digital Trends expects that the Galaxy Band will not be cross-compatible with Apple devices. As to whether the Band will only work with Samsung Galaxy smartphones, or with a wider variety of Android devices…well, no one will know for sure until MWC.

4. Band Might Attach to Wrist or Ankle

Fitness bands are interesting because they can be attached to many different parts of the body. It seems most likely that Samsung’s Galaxy Band will be designed to be worn around the wrist. Then again, with a second Galaxy Gear smart watch on the way as well, the Galaxy Band may be able to be worn around the ankle or bicep, as with some competing fitness bands.

5. Galaxy Band Is Unlikely to Be the Final Name

Digital Trends argues that the Galaxy Band product is likely to be known by another name by the time it hits store shelves. Trusted Reviews has noted that the product has also been teased under the name Samsung Galaxy Sport.
