The new Moto G is on sale for $179.99, unlocked and off-contract. Price info is still up in the air for the new Moto X, with nothing officially listed on the Motorola website as of this writing. The Wall Street Journal reports that the X might sell for $100 with a new 2-year carrier contract or $500 off contract.
During a recent livestream, Motorola execs stated that they were able to offer the new Moto G for the same price as the old Moto G when it first launched. It’s not inconceivable that Motorola would try to do the same for the new Moto X. Regardless, expect the Moto X to be significantly more expensive than the Moto G.
2. New Moto G vs. New Moto X: Specs
The Moto X is .2 inches bigger than the Moto G, and has double the RAM. The X has a 1080p OLED display, compared to a mere 720p display on the Moto G. Both phones run Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The two phones are nearly identical in weight, with the Moto G clocking in at 149g and the X clocking in at 144g. The Moto X comes in a 16GB version, as well as a 32GB Motomaker variant. The G comes in 8GB and 16GB variants.

For many smartphone owners, the camera on their phone is their primary camera. Therefore, a quality camera is really important to most shoppers. The Moto G has two cameras. The rear camera is a 8MP AF, while the front camera is a mere 2MP. In contrast, the more luxe rear camera of the Moto X is a 13MP F2.25. The front camera is a 2MP, just like the Moto G, but this front camera takes 1080p video.
4. New Moto G vs. New Moto X: Battery Life

The Moto G has a 2070 mAh battery. The Moto X has a beefier 2300 mAh battery. The Moto X’s battery is supposed to last all day, but the Wall Street Journal speculates that the device may not live up to those claims:
“Motorola is promising ‘all day’ battery life on the Moto X, but then somewhat contradicts itself by offering an optional Turbo Charger accessory that’s supposed to give the phone 8 hours of battery life—with a 15-minute charge.”
5. New Moto G vs. New Moto X: Key Differences & Conclusion
Learn about the brand new look and feel of Motorola Connect in the video above.
One key difference between these two phones is the quality of the display. Not just in terms of size and pixel density, but in terms of the durability of the screen itself. Unlike the Moto G, the Moto X has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 display. Another key difference between the two is that the Moto X has no FM radio, but the Moto G does. The Moto G has interchangeable shells to add color and personality, while the Moto X uses more premium (but optional) backing materials like wood grain or leather.
Both phones are quality in their own way, so the main consideration here is price. If you don’t mind a slightly lower quality display and reduced battery life, the Moto G might make you just as happy as the Moto X, and for a fraction of the price.
