The latest Apple and Mac rumors and news for February 15 include a hot pink iPhone that could be here in March, a recall on USB cables, and a new Apple Watch 2 in March. Sadly, it looks like touchscreen MacBooks could still be a long way away, maybe even years.
Here’s what you need to know.
We May See Hot Pink iPhones
If you’ve been wanting a new iPhone color, hot pink may be one of your choices, according to Apple Insider. The rumored iPhone 5se, which could be launched in March, might come in hot pink rather than rose gold. Mac Otkara, a Japanese website, said the company plans to market a new pink chassis in addition to silver and space gray, rather than going with the previous rose gold option. The color is rumored to be similar to the pink used in the sixth-generation iPod touch or the seventh-generation iPod nano.
MacBook Cables Recalled
If you noticed that your MacBook doesn’t always charge right, you might want to check and see if it’s part of a nationwide recall. Apple is recalling some MacBook USB-C cables because of an intermittent charging problem, TechCrunch reported. These cables were included with the laptop from March 2015 to June 2015 and may have a design issue. Apple is replacing the cables free of charge. The cables may also have been sold as stand-alone accessories.
How do you know if your cable is one of the ones recalled? It will have “Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China” stamped on it, and the serial number will be after the text. If you provided a valid mailing address when you registered your MacBook, you’ll be sent a new cable automatically by the end of February. You can also request a new cable online.
MacBooks May Be Delayed and Come Without Touchscreens
There have been a lot of rumors about the new MacBooks with Skylake, and these seem to change every day. The newest rumors are that a new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro may not be released in March with Apple’s special March event. The March event will likely feature other products and the new laptops will be released at their regular times in June, according to Yibada and MobiPicker. Although many fans have been hoping the new MacBooks will feature touchscreens, the latest rumors are that they will not, and touchscreen could be a couple years away.
The Apple Watch 2 May Be Released in March
A big discount on Apple Watches is fueling rumors that a new Apple Watch 2 could be released in March, ComputerWorld reported. The discounts aren’t available at the Apple Store, but many third party vendors are taking off $100. You can get the deals at Best Buy, B&H, Target, and Walmart.
