Season 2 of Empire left us on the ultimate cliffhanger, and fans are desperate to find out what will happen in the Season 3 premiere of the show. On this evening’s episode, we’ll find out how the mounting tension will pan out between Lucious and Tariq, and whether or not Rhonda or Anika survived the fall.

1. Mariah Carey Will Be On the Show

This season will feature an impressive lineup of celebrity guests. Mariah Carey will be playing Kitty, Cookie’s friend. She’s also gonna be involved in a music collaboration with Jamal. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a couple weeks before watching the ‘Without You’ singer– Carey’s episode airs October 5.
The other impressive celebrity guests include French Montana who’ll be guest starring as Lucious’s fellow music mogul, Vaughn. Taye Diggs will show up on the series this season, as a man named Angelo Dubois. The International Business Times writes, “Not only is [Dubois] said to be a rumored love interest for Cookie, Angelo comes from a wealthy African-American family and forgoes making millions working in the private sector to focus on local politics and community organizing.”
2. Anika or Rhona Will Die
At the end of season two, Rhonda and Anika were fighting each other on a roof. When Andre came upstairs to get Anika, he saw one of the two women fall over the edge– but who was it? In August, Taraji P. Henson confirmed that a major character will die on the show– and it’s going to either be Anika or Rhonda who falls over the edge of that balcony.
Henson went on to say that when the cast read the script, they all freaked out, and called one another in shock.
3. New Music
Up until this point, the music for Empire has been led by Timbaland. The artist will be leaving this year, however, and songwriter Rodney Jerkins will be taking over as music producer.
According to the International Business Times, one of the new songs on the show this season is called ‘Need Freedom’, which focuses on the shootings of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling, along with the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida.
4. A Young Lucious and Cookie Will Come Into the Picture

Season 3 will delve deep into the lives of young Cookie and Lucious, and two talented young actors have been cast to play the roles. Ajiona Alexus will be playing Cookie as a teenager, and newcomer Jeremy Carver will be playing Lucious. Alexus is an actress and singer, best known for her role on Tvone’s hit series, The Rickey Smiley Show. The Alabama native began working in the industry at an early age, and landed her first role at the age of 14, in the featured film Unspoken Words.
5. Cookie Will Come Back Stronger
When we left off, Lucious had chosen to marry Anika, ruining his chance at love with Cookie. Though Cookie is hurt and devastated, Season 3 will introduce a “much bolder, stronger, and fiercer Cookie”, in the words of Parent Herald. The outlet added on that a reconciliation between the two characters is unlikely.
