Dallas Cowboys fans may not see many–if any–starters on Thursday night when the team opens the preseason against the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL Hall of Fame Game, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t reasons to watch.
When it comes to the backups and players competing for a spot on the final 53-man roster, there are storylines abound. Can Rico Gathers, the former Baylor University power forward, carve out a role as the team’s second or third tight end? Somewhat surprising first-round pick Taco Charlton has received mixed reviews to start camp, and it will be interesting to see how fares in live game action. The ‘Boys also added lots of secondary talent in the draft, and while Jourdan Lewis won’t play, this will be a good chance to see Chidobe Awuzie, Xavier Woods and Marquez White, who are battling for backup spots.
