‘Battlefield 1’: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Battlefield 1

(DICE)

Battlefield 1 is one of the most anticipated first-person shooters of the year and has just released to anyone who’s part of EA Access. This World War 1 period game is bent on delivering the massive scale warfare that the series is known for along with a more emotional, character-driven campaign. With the game set to release on October 21, all eyes are on DICE to see if they can deliver a gaming smash hit once more.

Here’s what you need to know about Battlefield 1:

1. The Campaign Will Be Made Up Of Six Chapters Across a Variety of Continents

The Battlefield series hasn’t been known in the past for delivering emotional or deep story driven moments, with the past few entries seemingly to exists for the sake of existing. This appears to have changed with DICE focusing in on the more story driven aspect for its single player, however, this is coming at a slight cost. Currently, the base campaign will only be six chapters long, with each one focusing on a different person during the war. Dice is calling these “War Stores” and are meant to reflect how diverse the variety of combatants were during World War 1.

These levels will also range for what time period they take place, with one of them called “Mud and Blood” set very late in the war. There will also be a heavier focus on cinematics to help tell these stories, which are going to be coupled by a fully voiced cast of heroes.

2. Multiplayer Has Been Adjusted Thanks to Player Feedback

One of the biggest gripes many users had with Battlefield 1‘s Conquest Mode was that rounds had a 20-minute timer on them, as opposed to the original model which had none. What this meant is that comebacks were far harder to mount since the clock ticking down was your biggest problem. However, DICE has listened to their fans and outright removed the match timer, making its focus all about the capture points.

The other multiplayer modes for Battlefield 1 will consist of Rush, Domination, Team Death Match, and Domination. These have not been touched, as Conquest and Rush were the only two modes to reach a public beta test.

3. There Will Be 9 Multiplayer Maps at Launch and a Free One in December

However, the crown jewel of the Battlefield series has always been the amazing maps that you get to destroy during your online wars. This new entry is no exception as the game will be launching with 9 multiplayer maps, each of which will offer a different setting and gameplay style. The 9 maps are as followed:

  • Ballroom Blitz
  • Argonne Forest
  • Fao Fortress
  • Suez
  • The St. Quentin Scar
  • Sinai Desert
  • Amiens
  • Monte Grappa
  • Empire’s Edge

Every map will offer new challenges and have an incredibly distinctive look such as Ballroom Blitz’s giant French chateau or the sandy dunes lining the canals of Suez. All the maps feature the high level of destructibility that the series is known for and seem to be some of the most diverse in the series. There will also be a free map called Giant’s Shadow which is along the Cateu-Wassingy railway in France.

For those who simply cannot wait until October 21, players will have two opportunities to play this title early. One of them is through publisher EA’s Early Access program and the other is via the EArly Enlister version of the game. This, however, will only last for a period of ten hours and will include just five maps (Amiens, Fao Fortress, Suez, St. Quentin Scar, and Sinai Desert) from the multiplayer side of the game. This

This service is only available for Xbox One and PC (via Origins) currently, so PlayStation 4 users will have to wait unless they have purchased the EArly Enlister version which releases October 18. The EArly Enlister version of the game is still currently for sale and comes with the Hellfire Pack, the Red Baron pack ,Lawrence of Arabia pack, and Behemoth pack. It’s currently priced at $79.99, so if you want to have access to the full game early this will be your only way.
