Wednesday morning Macy’s, Inc. announced that it would be making significant changes to its structure, most notably closing 68 of its Macy’s store locations. Last August the company announced that it would be closing 100 of its 728 locations, and the 68 stores revealed Wednesday are included in those closings.
Macy’s Inc. announced Wednesday that the November/December 2016 sales were 2.1 percent lower than the numbers produced during those same two months in 2015. Of the 68 store locations impacted by the changes three have already closed, with another six having already been announced. Those six stores are due to begin their final clearance sales Monday, January 9.
Macy’s Inc. also announced that two new locations will open this spring in Los Angeles, California (Westfield Century City) and Murray, Utah (Fashion Place), with Bloomingdale’s locations in San Jose, California (Westfield Valley Fair Shopping Center) and Norwalk, Connecticut (The SoNo Collection) expected to open in 2019.
