After all the buzz about Tom Brady’s contract extension turned to confusion and eventually apprehension, the 42-year-old will have his first brush with free agency in the offseason should the team and quarterback not agree on a new deal.

By using void years on Brady’s extension, the New England Patriots were able to get some extra salary cap relief as well as give their quarterback a well-deserved raise. But it all means nothing if the two sides can’t get another agreement done.

Brady has spoken out about his appreciation and admiration for the organization to quell the drama. But after putting his Brookline mansion on the market for a reported $39.5 million, it appears his days in New England are actually numbered.

On ESPN’s First Take this morning, the point was raised about whether Brady will continue to play for the Patriots after this season or, like other stars before him, he will jump ship for the final years of his career.

The video, which does not feature Max Kellerman, brings up a few interesting points.

The future of the Patriots’ quarterback, currently focused on becoming the first 42-year-old to play a full NFL season, is certainly up in the air.

It’s Not Unheard Of

Joe Montana finished his legendary career with the Kansas City Chiefs. Emmitt Smith jumped ship to the Arizona Cardinals. And Jerry Rice made a few short stops in Oakland and Seattle before hanging them up.

Could Tom Brady be next?

He’s a California kid with ties to the New York area. As the greatest quarterback to play the game, it’s likely most teams will be putting in a call for Brady’s services past 2019.

There are reports of Brady and his family potentially moving to Greenwich, Connecticut, a short distance from New York City and East Rutherford, New Jersey where the Jets and Giants play. While it could be for Brady to move teams, there are other theories behind the move.

Brady’s eldest son, Jack, whom he had with Bridget Moynahan, lives with his mom in NYC. Perhaps the move is to help make things easier when it comes to co-parenting and to be closer to family.

Oh, The Places He’d Go

There are a lot of destinations that suit the aging star, especially with the abundance of former teammates and coaches taking the reigns around the league. The video brought up a pair of intriguing possibilities in Tennessee and Miami.

Mike Vrabel Tom Brady

Mike Vrabel and Tom Brady were part of the Patriots’ first championship dynasty.

Tennessee is where former Patriots’ linebacker Mike Vrabel is the coach. The Titans’ quarterback situation is in doubt after this year with Marcus Mariota set for free agency.

Brady threw ten touchdown passes to Mike Vrabel, including two in consecutive Super Bowls. The two have a long history and it could potentially be a move where Brady helps develop a new quarterback in more of a player-coach role with his good friend Vrabel.

The other destination, Miami, would team Brady up with former Patriots coach Brian Flores. The Dolphins did just acquire Josh Rosen from the Cardinals and have Ryan Fitzpatrick locked up for another year past this season. But to get a guy like Brady in the system who can work with a young kid like Rosen and help him develop would be invaluable for the Dolphins.
