The Australian radio duo Michael Christian and Mel Greig could be in serious trouble beyond the Twitterverse. Their controversial radio prank that preceded the suicide of nurse Jacintha Saldhana could land them in legal hot water.

The nurse was found dead this morning near the hospital where she was aiding in the treatment of Duchess Kate Middleton‘s chronic morning sickness. On Wednesday the nurse answered a phone call from the DJs, who duped her into thinking they were the Queen and Prince Charles.

Christian and Greig could be prosecuted if … “participants in live hosted entertainment programs [are treated] in a highly demeaning or highly exploitative manner.” That language comes from Australian broadcast law, detailed below:
