In a potential “breakthrough,” investigators have ID’d a suspect in the Boston bombings from surveillance video, CNN is reporting. The focus in the probe “has switched from identification to apprehension.”
Here’s what you should know.
1. Sources tell CNN’s John King that analysis of surveillance video shows “clear facial ID of a suspect.”
2. A package this suspect is carrying matches the description of how investigators believe the bomb was transported. He’s seen carrying a black duffel bag at the second bombing scene, on Boylston Street at the Forum Restaurant. The video shows the suspect dropping the package and leaving the scene. Footage comes from the Lord and Taylor store’s camera.
Here’s a Google Street view of Forum Restaurant:
3. An arrest is “imminent or already taking place,” reports WCVB.
#BREAKING: According to @wuwcvb, an arrest in #BostonMarathon bombing is imminent or has already taken place.
— WCVB-TV Boston (@WCVB) April 17, 2013
4. A press briefing is expected this afternoon.
5. The suspect is said to be a dark-skinned male individual. Janet Wu from WCVB says authorities don’t think there is a conspiracy involving a large number of people.
