Sean Collier is the MIT campus officer allegedly slain by the Boston Bombing suspects.
At a memorial service for the slain MIT officer, Sean Collier, on Wednesday, Vice President Joe Biden said that the suspected Boston Bombers, who are accused of also murdering the officer, are “twisted, perverted, cowardly knock-off jihadis,” reports WPTV.
At the memorial for the 27-year-old officer, Biden insisted that the bombers failed to instill fear in the American people.
“It infuriates them that we refuse to bend, refuse to change, refuse to yield to fear,” Biden said. “The doctrine of hate and oppression, they’ve found out cannot compete with the values of openness and inclusiveness. And that’s why they’re losing around the world.”
The Massachusetts of Technology campus officer lost his life Thursday night after responding to a disturbance call, which ended up being the beginning of the end for brothers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who are suspected to be responsible for the bombing at the Boston Marathon on April 15 that killed three people and injured over 170 more. Tamerlan died the night the officer was slain during a subsequent gunfight with police and Dzhokhar was captured the next day.
According to The New York Times, more than 10,000 people attended the memorial service, many uniformed police or military officers.
Collier is remembered as a kind and charismatic human being, born to be an officer.
“In just 15 months, he built a life with us that was rich in friendship and shared adventure,” MIT president, L. Rafael Reif said. “And he touched people across our community with his deep kindness and openhearted willingness to help, his humor and enthusiasm, his playful charm.”
