It is time to get that tape deck out again because there is going to be another adventure with the Guardians of the Galaxy. James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 will hit theaters in May 2017 and Marvel Studios showed the first footage for it on Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con International. However, it hasn’t been released on YouTube yet. This post will be updated if it’s posted.
Here’s Marvel’s Q&A after the Guaridans panel:
Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel are all back for another round as the Guardians. Pom Klementieff, who starred in Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake is joining the team. She’s playing a new character named Mantis. Kurt Russell is also joining the cast. We did learn today that the film takes place just a few months after the first film ended. Elizabeth Debicki, best known for her role in The Great Gatsby is also starring in the film.
The footage shown included Baby Groot.
Russell said he was “honored” to play the character and praised Gunn’s writing. It was confirmed that he’s playing Ego, Star-Lord’s father.
It was also confirmed that Sylvester Stallone has a part in the film.
Marvel also announced that Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout will be a new ride opening in Disneyland in 2017. We do have a video for that.
A trailer was shown and earned a positive reaction from the audience.
“She has never really experienced social interaction. Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from,” executive producer Jonathan Schwartz told Entertainment Weekly earlier this month about Mantis. Schwartz also revealed that Groot will be a completely different character. That’s not surprising, since he is still going to be a very young Groot. Perhaps he’ll have more than one word to say. Based on the footage shown at SDCC, he will be one of the film’s highlights.
