Bryan Lourd, Carrie Fisher Ex: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Hollywood talent agent Bryan Lourd was one of Carrie Fisher’s most significant past relationships.

He is the father of her only child, Billie Lourd, although their split was complicated. Lourd famously left Fisher for a man, something she was publicly open about and discussed in her books.

Fisher, 60, died on December 27 in a California hospital, just days after she suffered a massive heart attack on a transatlantic flight.

Fisher’s death was announced in a statement by Billie Lourd, a 24-year-old actress. The following day, Debbie Reynolds, Fisher’s mother, also died.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. Fisher & Lord Split After He Came Out as Gay

Carrie Fisher and Bryan Lourd dated for only three years and never married back in the 1990s, said UK Daily Mail.

Lourd left Fisher for a man, something she openly talked about. Daily Mail quoted her as saying, “People ask if it lessens the blow that he left me for a man because it’s a rejection of my gender and so isn’t personal. But I don’t care what people say – I was humiliated and betrayed and I believed I’d somehow messed up. I don’t know if I believed I made him gay, but I’d failed and that’s all that really counts.”

In her memoir, Wishful Drinking, Fisher claimed, “He told me later that I had turned him gay . . . by taking codeine again. And I said, ‘You know, I never read that warning on the label.'”

Fisher also discussed the break-up in her autobiographical novel, Delusions of Grandma. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, she made it clear that her split from Lourd was a very painful thing for her: “Well, this book prolonged the difficulty of my separation [from Lourd], because it held my attention to it — that I have a child with someone who is not around, and I’m sorry to be in that situation because I know what it’s like to be that child,” Fisher told the newspaper.

She was referring to the parental divorce she endured as a toddler, when her father Eddie Fisher famously and scandalously left her mother, Reynolds, for screen siren Elizabeth Taylor.

2. Lourd Recently Married His Partner

In October, Lourd “married his longtime boyfriend, Bruce Bozzi, in a private ceremony at the Beverly Hills courthouse,” reported AOL.

AOL continued: “The happy couple was joined by their daughters, Billie Lourd, and Ava, and Billie posted a photo of the happy family together on her Instagram.”

Bozzi is a Palm restaurateur, said UK Daily Mail.

Both Bozzi and Billie Lourd posted photos to Instagram of the wedding. Lourd wrote on Instagram, “praisethelourd??‍❤️‍?? my #papichulos finally made it official today and I couldn’t be a happier gal!! #lourdbozziconnection #thefamsallhere ?@brucebozzi.”

Billie Lourd is mostly known for her acting role as Chanel #3 in the hit Fox series Scream Queens. Billie revealed in September 2017 that she auditioned to play the character, Rey, in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Scream Queens premiered on September 22, 2015, and the Season 2 finale of the show aired shortly before Carrie Fisher died. Billie Lourd announced her mother’s death in a statement, saying, “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

Fisher was married for a short time to songwriter Paul Simon. The marriage was short-lived and troubled, but Simon posted a grief-stricken message on Twitter after Fisher died.

Although some sites say Carrie and Lourd were married, a 2004 Los Angeles Times article said they were never married – although he did give her a ring.

UK Daily Mail says “Carrie and Paul Simon dated for six years throughout the Star Wars movies, eventually marrying in 1983 only to divorce 11 months later.” The site quoted Fisher as saying, “It was a fantastic wedding, but a bad marriage.” Although Fisher and Lourd never made it to the altar, their partnership did produce Fisher’s most enduring legacy: Her only child, Billie.
