‘American Idol’ Hollywood Week Duet Challenge Live Recap

The episode started with the judges talking about the importance of Hollywood Week. The judges then told the contestants which people they had as their duet partners.

Up first was Leah Marlene and Fritz, who joked about hating each other while clearly having a good time. Fritz said that partnering with Leah helped him feel more comfortable on stage. They performed “Locked out of Heaven” by Bruno Mars accompanied by their acoustic guitars.

They earned a standing ovation, and the judges told them they made the whole better than the individual parts. Both contestants made it to the next round.

Next up, the Platinum Ticket holders picked their duet pairings. Kenedi chose to partner with Jordan Chase as her partner. They sang “Lean on Me,” but they had a messy rehearsal before their performance. Kenedi was a huge standout, but the judges sent both contestants through to the next round.

Allegra Miles and Taylor Fagens were the next duet to be shown. Allegra is the contestant who was previously on “The Voice.” They also chose to sing “Locked Out of Heaven.” Allegra made it through to the next round, but Taylor did not.

Huntergirl was the next artist to choose her duet partner, and she chose to sing with Cole Ritter. They sang “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac. Both contestants went through to the next round.

The next featured duet was Sam Moss and her partner Haley Slayton (now Haley Miles). Both women are pregnant; Sam said she was 4 months along, while Haley was 8 months at the time of their duet. They sang “Dancing on My Own.” The judges put Sam through to the next round, but Haley didn’t make it through.

Platinum Ticket contestant Jay chose Morgan Gruber as his duet partner. They chose to sing “Shallow” for their duet. Jay didn’t know the song very well, and he did miss a few words throughout the duet. They made it through to the next round.

Olivia Faye and Noah Thompson originally chose to perform “Lean on Me” for their performance, but the vocal coach told them to go back and choose a country song. They switched to “July” by Noah Cyrus. They messed up in a couple of spots, but ultimately, they both made it through to the next round.

The following duet came from Cameron Whitcomb and Tristen Gressett. They sang “Have You Ever Seen the Rain,” and they put a lot of energy into dancing and performing on the stage, which the judges appreciated. The judges loved the performance, and both contestants made it through.

The show then showed a performance from Kevin Gullage and Yoli Mayor, who sang “Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better” as a lead in to Douglas and Scarlet’s duet. The two had a hard time working together, and Scarlet left the building before they were done rehearsing. (Kevin and Yoli both made it through.)

Scarlet and Douglas ran into a few issues with remembering words during their duet, but their powerful vocals meant they made it through to the next round.

Cadence Baker and Cole Hallman performed together for their duet, and they previously met in Nashville at the audition. Cadence made it through to the next round, Cole did not.

Next up was Christian Guardino and Nicolina. They both made it through to the next round of the competition.

The final duet went to Kelsie Dolin and Betty Maxwell. Kelsie had a hard time during rehearsals, including the choreography that Betty wanted to incorporate into the performance, but when they started singing, she really came into her own. Lionel Richie, in particular, was obsessed with the performance. Both contestants made it through to the Showstopper round.
