Undergoes successful surgery
The Pistons announced Thursday that Ivey underwent successful surgery to repair a broken fibula in his left leg, and he will be re-evaluated in four weeks, Keith Langlois of the Pistons' official site reports. While Ivey is set to be re-evaluated in four weeks, the 22-year-old guard will likely be sidelined for a longer period while recovering from a broken fibula. Until Ivey is able to return to action, Marcus Sasser, Malik Beasley, Tim Hardaway and Ausar Thompson could all see increased roles in Detroit's backcourt.
Diagnosed with broken fibula
The Pistons announced Thursday that Ivey has sustained a broken fibula in his left leg and will miss at least most of the remainder of the season, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Ivey suffered his injury during Wednesday's game versus the Magic and could miss the rest of the 2024-25 campaign. The 22-year-old guard was enjoying the best season of his career, averaging 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 29.9 minutes across 30 appearances. The biggest improvement in Ivey's game was in his efficiency, as he was shooting 46.0 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from three. In his absence, Marcus Sasser, Malik Beasley, Tim Hardaway and Ausar Thompson are all candidates to receive increased playing time.
Taken off court on stretcher
Ivey suffered what seemed to be a severe left leg injury during the fourth quarter of Wednesday's game against Orlando and was taken off the court on a stretcher,Philip Rossman-Reich of OrlandoMagicDaily.com reports. Cole Anthony fell into Ivey's leg while going after a loose ball in the fourth quarter, causing Ivey to go down in a lot of pain. He'll finish Wednesday's contest with 22 points (8-11 FG, 5-6 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four assists, one rebound and one steal across 27 minutes. We should know more about the injury and Ivey's status in the coming days.
Efficient in loss to Denver
Ivey produced 17 points (7-9 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 1-1 FT), three rebounds and one assist in 21 minutes during Saturday's 134-121 loss to the Nuggets. Ivey is firmly entrenched as one of the Pistons' most reliable offensive weapons behind Cade Cunningham, and the numbers back him up. Since returning from a two-game absence due to a minor knee injury, Ivey has scored 17 or more points in four consecutive outings while shooting an impressive 56.9 percent from the floor, as well as 55.0 percent from beyond the arc, in that stretch.
Delivers win in final seconds
Ivey recorded 19 points (7-13 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-3 FT), six rebounds and one block in 33 minutes during Thursday's 114-113 victory over the Kings. Ivey got fouled while converting a three-pointer with three seconds left, and he sank the free throw to seal a dramatic win for the Pistons. Ivey's four-point play was the finishing touch to Detroit's massive rally, coming from 19 points down to clinch the team's 14th win. Ivey has been very productive since returning from a two-game absence, averaging 19.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists over the last three games.
Stuffs stat sheet Monday
Ivey accumulated 18 points (8-15 FG, 2-4 3Pt), three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 29 minutes during Monday's 117-114 win over the Lakers. Cade Cunningham stole the show for the Pistons in this comeback win over the Lakers, but Ivey delivered a strong showing by recording at least two tallies in five of the six major fantasy categories. Ivey missed two games on Dec. 16 and Dec. 19 due to a knee injury, but he's looked good since returning. He logged 20 points over Phoenix and 18 against the Lakers, both games that ended up in road wins for Detroit.
Pops for 20 points in return
Ivey finished Saturday's 133-125 win over Phoenix with 20 points (7-14 FG, 4-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, eight assists and one steal in 30 minutes. Ivey returned to the starting five after knee soreness forced him to miss two games, and the Purdue product did not disappoint. Ivey is surpassing previous seasonal averages through 26 games, averaging 17.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists while maintaining a career-high 30.3 minutes per game. Cade Cunningham is the unquestioned top producer for the team, but Ivey is a solid complement to him in Detroit's backcourt.
Cleared to face Suns
Ivey (knee) will play in Saturday's game against Phoenix. Ivey was initially labeled probable, so his availability doesn't come as a surprise. The third-year guard had missed back-to-back games due to left knee inflammation. He's started in all 25 of his appearances this season.
Participates in shootaround
Ivey (knee) took part in Saturday morning's team shootaround, Hunt Patteron of The Athletic reports. Ivey is currently listed as probable due to inflammation in his left knee, and the fact that he was present for shootaround provides further reassurance that he'll get the green light to suit up Saturday evening. Expect another update on Ivey's availability closer to tipoff.
