National Texting Champion Austin Wierschke Wins $50,000

Who says playing with a cell phone all day is a waste of human potential? A 16-year-old from Wisconsin has texted his way to a $50,000 prize as the fastest texter in America.

Austin Wierschke today triumphed in the L.G. U.S. National Texting Competition, held in New York’s Times Square.

Wierschke, the reigning champion, reclaimed his crown against a field of contestants ranging in age from 16 to 24, CBS reports.

The competition includes blind-folded texting, hands-behind-the-back texting, and an event in which contestants must copy phrases as fast as possible.
