WATCH: ‘Popinator’ Hears Voice & Shoots Popcorn Right into Your Mouth

Years from now, when the robots have taken over and mankind is forced to defend itself against the very machines we invented, your children will ask you “when did this robo-pocalypse start?” and in a somber voice you will answer them “It all started with The Popinator.”

Alright, that may be an exaggeration, but it looks like the geniuses at Popcorn Indiana (read: Skynet) have invented one of the coolest/pointless-est machines in recent history. The Popinator is a fully automatic popcorn dispenser that is triggered by the word “pop.” No longer will you spend all those long hours reaching into bags and then lifting your hands to put the popcorn in your mouth. The future is now!

The Popinator works by using a binaural microphone situated at the front of the device. This microphone calculates the differences in arrival times of the soundwaves to gauge how far and where to throw the popcorn. This is basically just fancy robo-speak for saying that when you say “pop” it shoots a buttery kernel at your mouth.

Sadly The Popinator is not up for commercial sale yet but reps at Popcorn Indiana say it is a goal to one day mass-produce The Popinator. Until then we just gotta continue eating our popcorn caveman style.
