‘Million Muppet March’ to Storm D.C. Nov. 3 to Save Big Bird

A massive movement of pro-PBS protesters will march on Washington, D.C., November 3 to fight for government funding of Big Bird and all his friends.

In the first presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, Romney said that he loved him some Big Bird, but he’d nevertheless hack federal funding for Public Broadcasting Service and Sesame Street if voted into office.

According to Reuters, two dudes separately and nearly simultaneously conceived the march idea and talked about it on social media before the debate’s end: Michael Bellavia, 43, and Chris Mecham, 46:

Bellavia bought the Internet address www.millionmuppetmarch.com during the debate and discovered Mecham had already started a Facebook page by the same name. Within 30 minutes of the end of the debate they were on the phone with each other, planning the march.

The project borrows its name from the Million Man March, 1995’s civil rights movement led by Louis Farrakhan.
