A 19-year-old man climbed the cables of the Brooklyn Bridge today and jumped to his death during the morning rush hour.
The victim plummeted from the east tower on the Brooklyn-bound side, landing near the upscale River Cafe in the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Firefighters responded around 7:20 a.m., and the teen stood atop the tower until making the leap at 8:05.
A helicopter rescue attempt failed.
The bridge was shut down for several hours.
The victim remains unidentified, described only as Asian.
