Former Arkansas governor and Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee today likened disgraced American hero Gen. David Petraeus to the biblical King David.
Both, he said, were great leaders who made mistakes.
Petraeus resigned as CIA director on Friday citing his affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell.
King David had the legendary sin with Bathsheba that inspired the Leonard Cohen song “Hallelujah.”
“I want to be careful we don’t get so wrapped up in the scandal that we … fail to remember that most all of his career has been that of a distinguished soldier and honorable man who made a huge mistake,” Huckabee said. “… like King David, who made a huge mistake, but he was still called a man after God’s own heart.”
