A one-day strike is taking place today in NYC among the workers of many fast-food restaurants.
Salon reports that employees from McDonald’s, Burger King, Domino’s, KFC, Taco Bell, Wendy’s and Papa John’s are walking out today, marking a bold move within an industry that is almost union-free.
Calling for higher wages and better treatment, the New York Communities for Change has been collaborating with fast-food workers for months in an effort to create a new union, the Fast Food Workers Committee, without fear of retaliation from their corporate employers.
In what’s being called the largest campaign ever to organize fast-food workers in the United States, at 6:30 AM this morning at McDonald’s on Madison Avenue and 40th Street walked out and began chanting “Hey, hey, what do you say? We demand fair pay,” The New York Times reports.
