Want to send someone who is not on your friends list on Facebook a message? That’ll be $1.
If you select “Strict Filtering,” a person outside of your network will have to pay $1 to send an e-mail that shows up in your inbox.
Facebook informed users on Thursday in a statement that they are going to be testing a feature that charges a person $1 to send a message to someone who is outside of their network as a way to de-clutter your inbox.
“Several commentators and researchers have noted that imposing a financial cost on the sender may be the most effective way to discourage unwanted messages and facilitate delivery of messages that are relevant and useful,” Facebook said in the statement.
Part of me thinks this might be a good idea. It makes sense, right? If you want to private message a person, you have to be in their network and if not, there might be a reason why you are not friends with them in the first place. Then the other part of me knows this is just a way for a super rich company to become even more super rich–cause’ people will spend that dollar to message someone if you ask them to.
Either way, I don’t mind. How often do you message someone outside of your network, anyway?
