A man who opened fire near a Texas movie theater — wounding one person and firing unsuccessfully at a police officer — was shot by an off-duty cop after he ran inside the theater.
KWTX reports the incident began around 9:30 p.m. Sunday when “the man fired shots inside a nearby restaurant.”
But UPI reports the shooting was outside the restaurant:
… he allegedly began shooting outside the China Garden restaurant across the parking lot from the theater. The shooter then took off running and continued shooting as he entered the theater and then a bathroom inside the theater.
The man allegedly fired at a police officer’s vehicle without wounding the officer before running inside the Santikos Mayan 14 theater.
An off-duty sheriff’s officer shot the suspect inside the bathroom.
Bexar County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Louis Antu said:
He was shooting at a marked unit. He knows he was shooting at an officer so that’s (an) automatic (charge of) attempted capital murder.
The suspect has not been named.
The incident came just two days after the Sandy Hook Massacre mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
