Guns and alcohol do not mix well. Adding Facebook can only make it worse.
A New Year’s Facebook photo shoot turned deadly when 19-year-old Savannah Ramirez shot her brother, 22-year-old Manuel Ortiz, while they were playing around with a pistol while having pictures taken and uploading them to Facebook, reports the Daily Dot.
ABC15.com reports that Phoenix police officers responded to a call at 5:30 a.m. on New Year’s Day and found Ortiz dead inside his apartment. Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos says the weapon accidentally went off, and police believe the two had been drinking through the night.
Martos said Ramirez was questioned and released by the police but could be charged with manslaughter if she had alcohol in her system, though her toxicology results could take up to six weeks. On her Facebook profile, she is shown throwing up gang signs and taking a number of selfies, and one picture features her holding a gun.
A friend who wanted to remain anonymous said Ortiz was kind and funny, and “a very close friend to everybody … Every time he saw somebody sad or down he would be right there making jokes so you could be happy. Even if he was just having a hard time he was always there for someone.”
