Car Suspended 20 Feet in Air After Driver Crashes Into Side of Building

A 70-year-old man lost control of his car and sent it flying into the side of a building.

A 70-year-old man was trying to grab a ticket from a toll booth at a Kearny Mesa medical center in San Diego on Wednesday morning when he lost control of his Toyota Camry and sent it flying into the building in front of him, leaving him and the car suspended 20 feet in the air.

Witnesses said the man was having trouble grabbing the toll booth ticket when the car started rolling backwards in neutral. Trying to regain control, he accidentally hit the gas and the car went flying forward 30 miles per hour into the side of the building, a clinic run by Rady Children’s Hospital.

Jody Taylor was on her way to an appointment when the car just missed her.

“He just flew straight through non-stop and hit,” Taylor said. “Once he hit, he tried to get out of the car so I went behind him and told him to look at me in the mirror… kept him focused, kept him in the car because he was trying to get out.”

The car was wedged between the building and the parking garage, hanging over a set of stairs.

Fortunately no one was hurt in the bizarre incident. Emergency crew rushed to the scene and the car was pulled out by a tow truck around 1 p.m.
