A Toronto man named Francis Pope has been thrust into the spotlight as a result of his uncanny resemblance – and nearly same name – as the new head of the worldwide Catholic Church.
The Toronto Pope is a 57-year-old president of Pope & Company, a capital markets and asset management firm.
He told the Toronto Star that since the election of Pope Francis I at the Vatican, he has had an interesting week. Deluged with invitations to connect on LinkedIn, he’s expecting his name will mean greater attention and celebrity, at least for a little while.
Really it’s just going to mean that every time that I go to the border or any other place where they see my name, someone is going to make some sort of joke.
He seems to be taking it in stride though, telling the Star he was considering adding “not Rome” on his online profile to help clarify matters.
It doesn’t help either that he looks a bit like Pope Francis, particularly with his receding hairline and glasses.
All he needs to complete the look is a long white dress and some fancy red shoes.
