One officer has been killed and another injured in a standoff in northern Quebec.

The CBC is reporting that police were called to a home in Kuujjuaq, Quebec, late Saturday night on a domestic dispute case, when a suspect inside the home began shooting at them.

Two officers were shot and rushed to the hospital, where one died. His identity has not yet been released.

During the confrontation with police, a woman from inside the house managed to escape uninjured.

The suspect, however, remains barricaded inside the home. Officers have formed a perimeter around the property, and additional officers from Montreal are being flown in to provide further assistance.

Kuujjuaq is an Inuit village western shore of the Koksoak River in northern Quebec. It has a population of less than 2,500, and is a transportation hub for its region.

It once housed a U.S. Air Force base.
