Thirteen members of the same family have been killed by government forces in Syria, BBC reports. According to a Syrian activist group, some of the victims — mostly women and children — were burned alive. The brutally violent act occurred in the Sunni village of Bayda, a region which has seen a particularly significant amount of sectarian violence.

Disturbing videos of large scale government-sponsored massacres have surged out of the village. Images of slaughtered corpses and charred bodies depict the utter devastation and horror of the Syrian civil war. This conflict has become increasingly violent, sectarian and unstoppable and what happens in Bayda appears to be one of Syria’s darkest hours.
