1. The Girl’s Father Sent Police to Morrissey’s Home


Henrico Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor confirmed the news, but did not reveal the nature of the investigation, reports WTVR. What we do know is that the incident took place Friday night. Apparently, police officers went to Morrissey’s Glen Allen home at the request of the girl’s father. The officers were told to tell Morrissey that the girl’s father wanted her to come home. The father said that he would get his daughter, but he asked that the officers accompany him to the house.


2. The Girl Said Her Mother Knew She Was at the Home

When the girl came outside, she told police her mother knew she was at Morrissey’s home and that there were two older women there as well, but the older women were not present when police arrived. Further details have not yet been released.

3. Morrissey is a Member of the Virginia House of Delegates


Del. Joseph D. Morrissey (D) is a politician and lawyer from Henrico, Virginia. He served as Commonwealth’s Attorney of Richmond, Virginia from 1989 to 1993 and was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in November 2007. He currently represents the 74th district.


4. He Gained National Attention When He Pulled a Gun Out in the House of Delegates


Morrissey stepped into the spotlight in last January when he brandished an unloaded AK-47 on the floor of the House of Delegates during a debate on gun control after a Republican-controlled subcommittee had killed a bill of his that would have tightened gun controls in the commonwealth on weapons such as AK-47s.

“A lot of people don’t know that in many locations in the commonwealth, you can take this gun, you can walk in the middle of Main Street loaded and not be in violation of the law,” Morrissey said during his presentation.


5. He Was Found Guilty in 2002 of a Vicious Assault

Morrissey was found guilty in 2002 of committing a vicious assault in 1999 and was sanctioned for legal misconduct while prosecuting a rape case. According to a legal brief filed by the victim’s attorneys, Morrissey shouted at the victim, “I’m going to kill you. I’m going to beat your head in,” before smashing his head into a brick wall. He left the country for a short time after the incident.
