After porn star Cameron Bay tested positive for HIV, rumors began to run wild that Sydney Leathers contracted HIV from filming her recent sex tape with Vivid Entertainment.
We were able to catch up with Leathers today to discuss the HIV rumors, Cameron Bay, and to find out if she will continue to do porn after this scandal. When I asked Leathers how she was dealing with the reports that she may have contracted HIV, she replied:
You know, the best part about this is that it’s mostly rumors. We’ve both (Xander Corvus and Sydney Leathers) been tested before filming and after … several times. We’re both fine. A lot of people love to hate me and I think it’s easy to jump to.
When Leathers heard that porn star had contracted the disease, she said:
It was crazy and someone told me later that night. I didn’t know who she was and I never thought I would be associated with something like this. I don’t even watch porn. Ha. Everyone thinks it’s crazy, but I really don’t.
Now, obviously, there is a 3-6 month window where someone who has contracted the disease will still test negative. After discussing this with Leathers, she agreed that:
It’s obviously smart to keep getting tested. People might think it’s crazy, but I’m really optimistic. I think I’m going to be fine. I think it’s a disaster, but the Free Speech Coalition contacted everyone except me. I contacted them and they said they’re 100% confident I’m fine. Any other reports are ridiculous.
After this whole mess, one thing Leathers definitely wants to make clear is that people should get tested and be careful.
I really want to hit on this. In reality, we were required to get tested in order to do the film. People don’t realize that even in dating, it’s the same thing when you meet someone. You don’t know them. They could have anything. Even in relationships people cheat. Get tested very often. I get tested regularly.
Earlier today, her rep GR Media has released a statement.
The news is falsely reporting Sydney Leathers was exposed to HIV while filming her movie, “Weiner and Me” for Vivid Entertainment. Sydney was not contacted by the Free Speech Coalition to re-test. After reports of the exposure Sydney reached out to Free Speech Coalition and was told she was not on the list of talent who were exposed. Sydney has tested three times since completing her movie on August 10th and all tests have been negative.
To further solidify the news, Leathers has come out with a comment of her own in the same press release.
I do not have HIV and have not been exposed to HIV regardless of the reports out there saying otherwise. I was not contacted by the Free Speech Coalition to re-test, I reached out to them to see if I should re-test and was told I did not need to. I took all the necessary precautions before and after my scene for Vivid and acted responsibly and therefore was able to protect myself from exposure to anything. As an added precaution I retested 2 days after my shoot and again yesterday and all tests were negative.
As far as continuing to do porn, Leathers said she definitely will not be filming another porn any time soon. But, this was something she had decided before the HIV scandal.
Best of luck, Sydney and glad to see you’re STD-free!
