WATCH LIVE: NASA Launches LADEE Rocket Toward the Moon

At 11:27 p.m. Friday night, NASA launched LADEE,the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer, from its facility on Wallops Island in Virginia.

The Launch can been seen along the East Coast from South Carolina to New England. For those in the west, a live feed of the launch is being broadcast on NASA.com.

The rocket will study the moon’s thin atmosphere and lunar dust. LADEE will orbit the moon at an altitude of between 12 and 93 miles above the surface and once its mission is complete, the spacecraft will be intentionally crashed into the moon’s surface.
