2 Oakland University Basketball Stars NOT Arrested on Rape Charges

Two Oakland University’s basketball players, Duke Mondy, 23, and Dante Williams, 20, were reportedly arrested on rape charges on November 14 in Culver City, Nevada, reports TMZ.

This is second rape scandal to rock college sports this week. It follows the investigation into Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. The SVU Made the Arrest in a Nevada Hotel

Both were taken into custody at a Culver City hotel. They were reported to have been held on $100,000 bail. The victim is was supposedly to be a woman from Los Angeles who is in her 20s.

2. Oakland Has a Huge Game Tonight

The Oakland University Grizzlies are due to play California in Berkeley tonight as part of the Maui invitational. In the team’s last game, the Oakland Grizzlies were blown out by UCLA 91-60, on November 12. They also lost their previous game before that to North Carolina.

3. The School Aren’t Really Saying Anything

Oakland University have yet to comment on the allegations but have confirmed that both Mondy and Williams are not with the team for the game in Berkeley.

4. The Pair Are Both Highly-Rated

Duke Mondy is a starting guard for the team and Dante Williams is a shooting-guard. Williams is a 6-foot-6 graduate of Huron High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

5. Mondy is No Stranger to the Law

In 2010, Duke Mondy was present during the assault on a Providence College student, Yerkin Abdrakhmanov by Johnnie Lacy and James Still. Both Lacy and Still were sentenced to three years in prison for the assault that left Abdrakhmanov with a broken nose, eye socket and other injuries. That incident occurred while Mondy was a student at Providence.
