On Saturday, 63-year-old Frank Arthur Janssen went missing from his home in Wake Forest, North Carolina. For five days law enforcement agencies investigated his disappearance, later deemed a kidnapping. This morning, the FBI announced that Janssen was rescued Wednesday evening at approximately 11:55 p.m. around 407 miles from his North Carolina home in Atlanta, Georgia.

1. He Was Rescued From an Atlanta Apartment After 5 Days

The FBI announced on Thursday via the statement above, that their Hostage Rescue Team was used to rescue Janssen. In their statement they did not reveal what specifically led law enforcement to that apartment, or what happened during the rescue operation. The team freed Janssen at around 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday.


2. He Was Kidnaped While on a Bike Ride in North Carolina

Janssen disappeared on Saturday April 5 after he left his Wake Forest home at around 9 a.m. Police say they were alerted when his wife returned home from shopping and found drops of blood on the ground outside of their home.


3. His Daughter Prosecutes Drug & Gang Cases

The FBI now believes that Janssen’s kidnapping was motivated by his daughters role as a North Carolina prosecutor, often in drug and gang cases. The AP now reveals that John Strong, the FBI special agent in charge in North Carolina, believes the kidnapping was retribution for Janssen’s daughter’s prosecution of Kelvin Melton.

4. He’s a National Security Consultant

The 63-year-old Janssen commutes to Washington, D.C. during the week for his job at a national security consulting firm. According to CBS, the authorities never believed his job was a motive in the kidnapping.


5. 5 People Have Been Charged

On Thursday afternoon, the AP reported that 5 people have been charged in the kidnapping of Janssen. It was these 5 that allegedly linked the crime to the prosecution of Kelvin Melton.

Authorities say the 5 threatened to torture Janssen and sent demands and pictures to his wife via text message.
